Yangnyeongsi has been the country¡¯s leading medicinal herb market since the Chosun Dynasty(1392-1910) and is an important Korean cultural heritage in Daegu City, which used to be a major foothold in herb distribution in international market. The market opened first within Gyeongsang-gamyeong (Governor's office of the Gyeongsang Province) in 1658 (9th year of King Hyojong¡¯s reign) and had enjoyed phenomenal growth before it was forcibly shut down by the Japanese imperialists. After the liberation from Japan¡¯s colonial rule, the traditional market has been restored thanks to constant efforts of herbal medicine pharmacists and finally developed to Yangnyeongsi of today. At present, Yangnyeongsi stretches along a 715m long street in Namseongro, Dongseungro 3 ga, Gyesan 1¤ý2 ga, Sudong, Jongro 2 ga, Janggwandong, and part of Sangseodong.
